I’ve begun to understand that, for me, part of being happy, a second-generation immigrant, and trans at the same time is just not taking myself too seriously. I’m always playing these days, even as I delve further into hormonal transition and try to be conscious about learning what it means to move through space as a man-aligned individual. I used to be prone to intense, overwhelming, terrifying existential crisis as a child, and have carried trauma and depression inside my body for as long as I can remember. This is all still the case, but part of learning to live with myself is learning to peel back the layers of who I am and laughing joyfully at what lies beneath.
